My whole OJT experience at 98Labs Inc started last November 21, 2011 until February 28, 2012. For three months (600 hours) that I’ve been working here, I can say that it was a breeze that I learned a lot of things. Not just in the field of Information Technology but also what the “corporate life/real world” really is.
On the early part of my job, I was made to be part of a mobile application project (MMDA) which was very interesting for me. I learned the concept of DRY principle on this project. During this program, I learned many things which include developing my skills. We were given a chance to experience to how does it looks like to work in a real world and to find out it doesn’t look easy at all. I felt pressured mainly because I still have no idea about the IT world and still my knowledge is just basic. But then, despite the pressure, I was able to manage the time which was allotted for our OJT. I was able to learn other programming languages which we didn’t learn before. I experienced to be trained which start in basic CSS, Javascript, Php and OOP that challenge me most. Being in this software developing company is much like a blessing in disguise for the opportunity that was given to me.
In terms of the “corporate life/real world” experience, I can say that the “student-petiks-lang-life” is so much easier and definitely a whole lot more fun. I really didn’t believe the cliché that going to school is better than working. Now, I totally believe it. I’m not saying that I won’t be working in the future, but it challenges me most. Going to work and seeing some friendly faces helped a great deal. It was also nice to have to go to work together everyday with my friend (and having occasional lunch outs) and having a great time with my co-employees and our boss, much like a family type company. I’m sure the real world wouldn’t always have as many friendly faces but we all; relationships that is, have to start somewhere. Before all the relationships and friendships have even started, we were but strangers in this sea of unfamiliar and nameless faces.
THEY say that nothing beats experience, as my professor would say, as the perfect learning tool. For some students, on-the-job training gives them a taste of the real world–a glimpse of what lies ahead after they graduate. As for me, my OJT experience was so much fun and it helped me a lot in gaining knowledge about my course.
